The Reinassance Banquet
In the rich and various decoration of Palazzo Vecchio, the natural world has a main role: animals, most of all birds, plants, flowers and fruits, that form decorations, symbol of the opulence of the Earth and at the same time of the Court of the Medici Family, as well as witness of the love of the ducal family for the garden and the stay in villa.
And unexpectedly, between the birds of the Florence territory, parrots of the New World come up, indicating that American products are reinforcing in the Old Continent. By carefully observing the details of the palace, it is easier to imagine the life in court that took place inside these austere walls, and to question what the family used to eat and hoe tables were presented. Now we can imagine better the sumptuous banquet for the wedding of Lucrezia de Medici and Alfonso II D'Este, duke of Ferrara, in 1558: dishes are innumerable, and different the mixtures of tastes and flavors with regard to our alimentary habits, but, most of all, banquet is actually a representation, sumptuous and marvelous, where view must cheat the taste. You can also find a novelty in the presentation of the table: the fork.
At the end, using the multimedial instruments, an analysis of the rich iconography related to food and table can be made, including various representations of the Last Supper.
