Naples and Pompeii
Your tour begins with a visit to Pompeii. On August 24, 79 AD, Vesuvius erupted in what was to be one of the biggest, deadliest, and most famous volcano eruptions in the history of mankind... Pompeii was partially buried under 9 to 18 feet of ash and volcanic debris, and much of the city was completely destroyed. Your tour guide will show you the most interesting aspects of the archaeological excavations.
On the way north to Naples, your tour will stop at a local cameos and corals manufacturer, and then take you to the main sites of Naples - Piazza del Plebiscito, Galleria Umberto I, the Royal Palace, San Carlo Theater, the New Castle, Posillipo (panoramic area), Spaccanapoli, Piazza del Gesù Nuovo.
On the magnificent Plebiscite Square, you’ll see the facade of the Royal Palace and the beautiful neoclassic church of San Francesco di Paola.
Your next stop is the Town Hall Square with the ancient, medieval Castel Nuovo (New Castle) begun by the French Anjou family in 1279.
Your tour of Naples then continues to the residential quarter of Posillipo located on the water's edge and famous for historic buildings and landmarks. Here, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the best view of the city of Naples from a terrace located above the water.
Your day excursion between past and present at the foot of the Vesuvius volcano, among the marvels of Pompeii and the treasures of Naples ends with a visit to the famous Spaccanapoli, the city’s lively main artery of Greco-Roman origin, and ends at the Piazza Gesù Nuovo.
