Villa Godi Malinverni: Individual & Group Tickets
The design for Villa Godi Malinverni was Andrea Palladio's first completed venture into creating estate buildings for the Venetian rich and noble families (1542). Villa Godi Malinverni is on the UNESCO World Heritage list together with the other Palladian estates and the city of Vicenza. Together with his brothers Pietro and Marcantonio, Girolamo Godi commissioned the young Palladio to design and create a country villa for their estate in Lonedo in 1537. The Villa is a glorious case of Palladian design - the main building houses nine frescoed salons by well known artists Gualtiero Padovano, Giambattista Zelotti and Battista del Moro and unique pieces of 17th and 18th century Italian furniture. The characteristic side patios (barchesse) were places where the day by day life of the Villa unfolded, sheltered from sun and rain.
The Godi Malinverni estate perches above the Valley of Astico and includes magnificent gardens, where sculptures by Albanese and Marinali, ancient plants, paths, lakes and fountains make Parco di Negrin a standout amongst the most intriguing romantic parks from the nineteenth century. One of the buildings in the gardens holds the Fossil Museum, established in 1852.
The focal point of the gardens is taken up by a lake with swans, while the most thickly planted corner is devoted to the memory of friends and family who lived on the estate. They are remembered with stones that bear their names as well as citations by poets Antonio Fogazzaro and Giacomo Zanella.
Behind the villa, there are seventeenth and eighteenth century Italian gardens with pools, fountains, and statues. Other small gardens are located in the back of the Palladian villa, at the door from the 16th century kitchen and at the entrance to the Museum of Fossils, as well as in front of the guesthouse.
